Early Years education at British Primary comprises
Nursery and Reception classes. Our curriculum follows
the UK “Early Learning Goals” and is closely
monitored to ensure continuity and progression.
The Foundation unit has its own building and outdoor
play area. We believe children must be allowed to develop
within a structured and caring environment. Underlying
our Early Years activities is an emphasis on developing
self-esteem, confidence, respect for others and independence,
building a sound foundation for The Primary years ahead.
Inspection Comment :"The
Nursery and Reception classes provide a very good foundation
for the children's learning".
Nursery
Children may enter Nursery at the age of 2 years 9
months. The ratio of staff to pupils in Nursery is one
adult to eight children (conforming to the UK guidelines)
and our staff create a relaxed, happy and stimulating
environment. Children leave our Nursery with excellent
classroom skills including listening, a good concentration
span, an ability to share and the confidence to speak
in front of a group. We give equal attention to the
development of physical skills and co-ordination, and
encourage musical expression through percussion and
singing. Within the Nursery class children are divided
into groups. The children spend the first and last parts
of the morning with their own teacher developing skills
across the curriculum. In between, the groups are mixed
according to the activities which the children are doing
that morning.
Reception
Our adherence to the Foundation Guidelines ensures
smooth transition from Nursery to Reception. Teachers
work closely to ensure continuity and progression for
all children. On leaving Reception, children are ready
to approach Key Stage 1 of the English National Curriculum,
with excellent basic skills of literacy and numeracy.
